Scott M. Dommes is an associate in the firm's Los Angeles office practicing in the firm's Tax and Joint Ventures groups. Scott has extensive experience structuring, negotiating and documenting complex joint ventures and business transactions for equity investors, financial institutions, developers and others. Scott has counseled clients regarding joint ventures and transactions covering a broad range of real property types, including undeveloped land, hotels and resorts, commercial office, retail projects, shopping centers and mixed-use projects. Scott assists clients in all phases of joint ventures, including formation, operation, restructuring, member disputes and wind-down.
In addition, Scott has experience in a broad range of income taxation matters, including with respect to partnerships, corporations, mergers and acquisitions (taxable and tax-free), divestitures and both debt and equity restructurings. Scott regularly advises clients regarding the tax implications of owning real property, including the acquisition, ownership, development and disposition of real property, Section 1031 exchanges, California real property tax (Proposition 13) matters and documentary transfer tax matters.
Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Scott was an associate in a large international law firm and an associate in the transaction advisory services (M&A) group of a Big 4 accounting firm. While in law school, Scott served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California.

Scott received his B.A. from the University of California, Davis, with honors; his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law; and his LL.M. in taxation, with highest distinction, from Loyola Law School Los Angeles. While attending Hastings College of the Law, Scott was a staff member and a senior notes editor of the Hastings Law Review and was made a member of The Order of the Coif.
