Biography
Ted G. Fates is senior counsel in our Bankruptcy & Creditors' Rights Group based in the San Diego office. He specializes in the areas of bankruptcy, receivership, insolvency, and commercial litigation, including representation of debtors, creditors, receivers and trustees.
Ted has substantial expertise regarding equity receiverships initiated by the Securities and Exchange Commission. He has represented equity receivers appointed for various securities trading and investment firms, a receivable factoring business, Internet-based investment programs and Ponzi schemes. Collectively, these entities raised more than $2.5 billion from their participants.
Ted represents lenders and real property owners in bankruptcy matters, including treatment of leases and real property disputes, cash collateral orders and section 363 sales, preference and fraudulent transfer litigation, claim allowance and priority disputes. His clients also include state court receivers appointed to manage and/or sell real estate and other business assets.
Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Ted clerked for the Honorable John E. Ryan, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California and Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel.

Education
Ted graduated magna cum laude from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2003, where he served on the Editorial Board of the San Diego Law Review and was awarded membership to the Order of the Coif. He received his B.A. in political science from Emory University in 1999.
