Biography

Alan Hearty is a trial lawyer based in the firm’s Century City office.  Alan represents a broad array of clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to business partnerships and individuals.  Alan's practice focuses primarily on complex litigation matters, with an emphasis on real estate and commercial business disputes.  Within the past year, Alan has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in trial and arbitration proceedings.  Alan obtained a multi-million dollar verdict in favor of a publicly traded real estate investment trust in a six-week jury trial relating to breaches of a commercial business lease.  Alan also secured a multi-million dollar award for a software company in a two-week multi-party arbitration involving claims related to breaches of an intellectual property asset purchase agreement.

Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Alan was a member of the litigation and trial practice group in the Los Angeles office of Alston & Bird LLP.  While practicing at Alston & Bird LLP, Alan served as litigation counsel to a diverse field of clients drawn from the banking, manufacturing, energy, real estate, and entertainment industries.  While practicing as a junior associate, Alan had the honor of serving as lead trial counsel in a three-week jury trial involving personal injury claims related to a major vehicular collision in which his client sustained severe life-threatening injuries.  Alan obtained a jury verdict in favor of his client and secured an award of punitive damages against the defendant.

Alan was born and educated in Ireland and is now a citizen of the United States.  He attended University College Dublin and graduated magna cum laude with a combined business and law degree including a foreign languages component.  Alan continues to maintain strong links with the business community in Ireland, and he frequently counsels Irish government agencies and business professionals on matters relating to the United States legal system.  Alan was a recipient of the 2010 Irish Legal 100 award, which honors those of Irish heritage for their efforts in supporting the Irish-American legal profession.  Past recipients of the award include United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy.  Alan traveled to Washington, D.C. to receive his award from His Excellency, Michael Collins, the Irish Ambassador to the United States.
