Biography
Kristen L. McMichael is a senior counsel in our San Francisco office's Labor and Employment Group. She represents employers in individual, multi-party and class action employment litigation in federal and California state court on a broad range of employment issues, including wage and hour, unfair competition, wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and breach of contract. She also represents employers before such administrative agencies as the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement. Kristen has assisted federal contractors and subcontractors in developing and implementing affirmative action plans and provided representation in affirmative action compliance review proceedings by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP).
Kristen regularly counsels employers on a variety of employment issues, including wage and hour, discipline and termination, harassment and discrimination investigations, leaves of absence, and disability accommodation. She also assists employers achieve compliance with federal, state and local laws by drafting, reviewing and updating employment policies and procedures.
Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Kristen was an associate at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP and DLA Piper, practicing employment law at both firms.
Education
Kristen received her J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1997. During law school, she served as a judicial extern to U.S. District Court Judge Laughlin E. Waters, Central District of California. Kristen received her B.A. in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
