Biography

Peter Roth is the Los Angeles and Century City Office Chair for the firm's Shopping Center and Retail Practice Group. He specializes in strategic planning, negotiation and documentation vis-à-vis the development, leasing and management of office, retail, industrial and mixed-use projects throughout California. Among other general real estate matters, Peter has extensive experience in the negotiation and documentation of purchase and sale transactions (including 1031 exchange and reverse 1031 exchange transactions), sale-leaseback transactions, build-to-suit lease transactions, commercial and retail lease transactions, bondable leases, development agreements, covenants, and other agreements relating to ongoing uses of real property. Peter also has significant experience in the fair market rent arbitrations and in the development, renovation and management of stadiums for professional sports franchises, and theaters for live stage productions and film projection.

His clients include highly sophisticated institutional investors as well as entrepreneurial individuals and entities. Peter's recent representations include Kilroy Realty, Inc., Equity Office, Blackstone Real Estate Group, Beacon Capital Partners, Tishman Speyer, the Fowler & Flanigan Companies, and WMC Mortgage Corporation. Among his recent transactional matters are the leaseback of a one million square foot office building in downtown Los Angeles, the reconfiguration and redevelopment of a major shopping center in Hawaii, multiple build-to-suit corporate headquarters developments, and the development of shopping centers in Agoura Hills, Fontana and Inglewood, California.

Peter is an adjunct professor at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles where he teaches Commercial Real Property Transactions. He is also a faculty member of Continuing Legal Education International, and a moderator and panelist for Continuing Education of the Bar seminars. His article, "Structuring Workouts with Tenants Facing Bankruptcy," was published in Los Angeles Lawyer in June 2003 and Peter frequently contributes expert commentary to ULI-LA's monthly newsletter. He is a contributor and audio reviewer for UltraAudio.com and SoundStageHiFi.com.

Education

Peter received his B.A. in economics and classical studies from Duke University in 1990, where he graduated cum laude and with honors in economics. He received his J.D. from Duke Law School in 1993, where he was a senior editor for the Alaska Law Review.
