Biography
Sean W. Southard is a partner in the firm's San Diego office and chairs that office's shopping center and retail practice group. His general real estate practice concentrates on representing highly sophisticated institutional investors, developers, public homebuilders and entrepreneurial individuals in the acquisition, development, leasing and sale of retail, office, residential and mixed-use projects throughout the United States. During the past ten years, Sean has successfully completed major leasing transactions totaling more than 5,000,000 square feet of commercial space. Sean also has extensive experience in the negotiation and documentation of purchase and sale transactions, sale-lease back transactions, ground lease transactions, development agreements, property management agreements and all other types of agreements relating to the use of real property.
He is also a frequent lecturer at various legal educational seminars and regular speaker at real estate industry trade group conferences and programs. He is the co-author of several published articles including, "Private Shopping Malls – The "Not-So-Private" Private Property" and "Lease Workouts in Troubled Times."

Education
Sean completed his preparatory education at the University of San Diego graduating with a B.A. in 1990. Sean then served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy until 1994. In 1997, he was awarded his J.D. by Loyola Law School Los Angeles. At Loyola, Sean was a member of the Loyola of Los Angeles International & Comparative Law Journal and Scott Moot Court Honors Board.
