Commitment to Diversity

Allen Matkins is committed to enhancing diversity – in our own workforce and in our profession.  We believe diversity enhances the professional services we provide, enhances the environment in which we work, enhances our ability to attract, retain and promote talented lawyers.  The clients we service expect nothing less.

To Allen Matkins, diversity is reflected in how we operate.  We strive to enhance diversity in all aspects of attorney hiring and development, including law school recruitment, lateral attorney searches, client representation and firm management.

Diversity is a Core Value of our firm.  We state in our Eight Commandments of Firm Culture:  "Our people are our most important resource.  We are committed to open communication, equal employment opportunity, enhancing diversity, training and development programs to motivate and retain, and compensation systems that ensure all are fairly and adequately paid."  Simply put, "we treat one another with respect on a day-to-day basis, including partners, associates and staff, and we are nice to one another,"  without regard to age, race, gender, sexual orientation, color, religion, national origin, place of birth, non-job-related disability or any other legal protected status or irrelevant criteria.

Our commitment to enhancing diversity includes:

·           Recruiting at law schools with significant minority and women enrollments and at minority job fairs.

·           Being a signatory to the Bar Association of San Francisco's Commitment on Breaking the Glass Ceiling.

·           Being a signatory to the Bar Association of San Francisco's Goals and Timetables for Minority Hiring and Advancement.

·           Sponsoring and participating in the California Minority Counsel Program.

·           Requiring that all lateral search firms include in their searches a plan to generate minority and women candidates for consideration.

·           Supporting minority bar associations, social, and cultural organizations where we live and practice.
