Commitment to Diversity

We recognize that the populations that matter most to our business success are becoming increasingly diverse as a result of globalization, changes in the racial and ethnic makeup of our country, openness of gays and lesbians in the workplace and changing demographics. It is important to us that our firm reflect the populations we serve.

We recognize that our people are our most important resource. The diversity of our people enhances the professional services we provide, the environment in which we work, and our ability to attract, retain and promote talented lawyers, and because of this diversity is a stated Core Value of the firm. We are committed to creating an inclusionary environment for our minority, female and gay and lesbian attorneys and staff and fostering a firm culture that genuinely values and reflects diversity. We are a workplace of open communication, equal employment opportunity, diversity training and development programs, and fair compensation. All members of the Allen Matkins team treat one another equally without regard to age, race, gender, sexual orientation, color, religion, national origin, place of birth, disability or any other legally protected status.

Our commitment to enhancing diversity includes:

  • Creation of a formal diversity and inclusion plan.

  • Mentorship programs to further the retention, inclusion and professional development of our minority, female and gay and lesbian associates.

  • A Women's Initiative to enhance the retention, inclusion and professional development of all our women attorneys.

  • Participation in various recruiting and outreach events for minority law students.

  • Requiring that all lateral search firms include in their searches a plan to generate minority and women candidates for consideration.

  • Being a signatory to the Bar Association of San Francisco's Commitment on Breaking the Glass Ceiling.

  • Being a signatory to the Bar Association of San Francisco's Goals and Timetables for Minority Hiring and Advancement.

  • Sponsoring and participating in the California Minority Counsel Program.

  • Supporting minority bar associations, social, and cultural organizations where we live and practice.

  • A Diversity Committee which oversees the implementation and ensures the success of our various diversity initiatives.

  • Institution of a Pro-Bono program that is focused on historically disenfranchised groups and making a difference in the diverse communities where our attorneys and staff live.

  • Being a signatory to the San Diego County Bar Association's Diversity Pledge.
