Allen Matkins' Sports Law group applies the interdisciplinary skills needed to resolve the business issues, regulatory issues, and disputes that affect sports clients. The Sports Law group consists of transactional, real estate, construction, labor, litigation, advisory, and intellectual property lawyers with experience in sports matters. Advisory Services

We supply forward thinking, strategic advice relating to the use of banned and illegal substances. We can review and evaluate current standards and practices in light of all that has transpired in the post BALCO world; we help to interface and mediate between the various stakeholders - leagues, commissions, all government branches and the media.

Stadium and Entertainment Facility Development and Consulting

We assist sports clients with the issues facing the development and construction of stadiums and entertainment centers from concept to completion, including defending legal challenges and navigating the complex zoning, financing, land use and construction issues. We also assist clients in expanding their stadium and racetrack properties with mixed-use facilities including entertainment centers, retail facilities and condominiums.

Intellectual Property and New Media

We help our sports clients with releases, royalty agreements, sponsor agreements and a wide variety of matters relating to the protection of intellectual property. We also help sports entities develop, exploit and capitalize on the opportunities presented by the internet. Our work has included intellectual property licensing; negotiating and drafting Internet co-branding agreements; crafting website development and hosting agreements; and advice and counseling on a wide range of new Internet legal issues.

Employment/Immigration

We assist sports clients regarding a full range of employment issues, including minimizing wage/hour liability risks for employees specific to professional sports teams, advising regarding immigration issues, and providing anti-harassment training (now required by California law for supervisors).
