LOS ANGELES – July 30, 2018 – Allen Matkins, a California-based full service real estate and business law firm, has been recognized on two separate lists ranking the nation's top law firms for minority attorneys. Law360's 2018 Diversity Snapshot ranks Allen Matkins high among U.S. firms with 150-299 attorneys, while The American Lawyer's 2018 Diversity Scorecard has the firm ranked in the top 20 percentile of all AmLaw 200 and National Law Journal 250 firms.
Law360 grouped firms based on U.S. attorney headcount in order to evaluate them with similar-sized peers. The publication excluded any firm that had below-average minority representation and then it ranked the rest based on their percentage of minority attorneys, both at the non-partner and partner level. The top firms in each size category boast diversity levels of at least 22 percent of all attorneys at the firm.
The American Lawyer's Diversity Scorecard records the average number of full-time-equivalent minority attorneys—Asian-American, African-American, Latino or Hispanic, Native American and self-described multiracial attorneys—at AmLaw 200 and National Law Journal 250 law firms in the calendar year 2017.
"At Allen Matkins, diversity is a core value on which we continue to dedicate our efforts and resources. We strive to enhance diversity in all aspects of attorney hiring and development, including law school recruitment, lateral attorney searches, our firm’s own Diversity Committee Mentorship Program, client representation, our partnership with important organizations, like California Minority Counsel Program, and firm management," says Baldwin J. Lee, a partner in the firm's San Francisco office, head of the Allen Matkins Diversity Committee, and member of the firm’s Management Committee. "These recent diversity rankings are verification that our ongoing efforts are helping move the needle, and we hope our own initiatives have a positive impact on the legal industry at large."
Allen Matkins is dedicated to promoting diversity in its workplace and in the legal profession as a whole. Many of the minority and women partners at Allen Matkins have management responsibilities and are key players in the discussion of strategic issues. The firm also strives to support and sponsor diversity-focused organizations as part of its community outreach efforts.
