Andrew Castro

Associate

Andrew brings a practical and client-focused approach to complex litigation, with an emphasis on real estate disputes in Hawaii and California. His work often involves issues related to rights in land, related transactions, and issues tied to easements, nuisance, trespass, recording statutes, and probate and trust estates. Andrew also delivers for clients in matters involving constitutional rights like privacy and speech — he keeps abreast of dynamic areas of the law by studying and applying evolving Supreme Court interpretations. Licensed to practice law in both Hawaii and California, Andrew offers cross-jurisdictional insight that adds unique value to clients with property or business interests in either state.

Notably, Andrew has played a key role in leading a high-stakes construction and breach of contract dispute in Hawaii state court, navigating nuanced questions of state and federal law, including Hawaii statutes governing construction, property rights, and business practices. Andrew is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii, as well as federal courts in California. He has helped to achieve swift disposition of an easement dispute involving several private parties and a federal agency. His state and federal capabilities enable him to manage cases arising in state or federal court, including state cases removed to federal court.

A lifetime Allen Matkins attorney, Andrew started at the firm in 2021, working two summers in law school before joining as a full-time associate. He has lived all over California and is frequently in Hawaii: he understands clients’ needs across both states’ diverse jurisdictions. Before entering the legal field, he honed his business and client-focused mindset at Nordstrom, where he rose through the ranks from salesperson to department manager. That experience shapes his commitment to understanding diverse perspectives and delivering responsive, strategic services to help clients achieve their unique goals — whether you are an individual, trustee, or entity, Andrew will take care of you.

Outside of his practice, Andrew serves on the Executive Committee of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Barristers Litigation Section, volunteers at the San Francisco LGBT Center, and tutors recent graduates of his alma mater to help them pass their bar exams. Beyond that, you’ll find Andrew spending quality time with his 15-year-old dog and amazing friends and family.
