Kate Mathews

Senior Counsel

Kate is a litigation senior counsel in the New York office, concentrating her practice on complex litigation involving financial institutions and other sophisticated clients, as well as white collar defense and internal investigations. Known for her client-focused approach, Kate guides clients through all stages of investigations, providing strategic counsel from initial case assessment and internal fact-finding to developing robust defense strategies and advising on potential resolutions. In litigation, she leverages her experience to manage discovery effectively, craft persuasive motions, and meticulously prepare cases for trial, always with the client's best interests in mind.

Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Kate was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of New York and an associate at an international law firm, where she represented corporate entities and high-net-worth individuals in regulatory enforcement matters and internal investigations. She’s played a lead role in numerous significant investigations, including those involving COVID-19 relief fraud, the Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division, and the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC).

Earlier in her career, Kate clerked for Judge Reena Raggi of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and Judge Richard Andrews of the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. Kate earned her J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from Georgetown University Law Center, where she actively contributed to the Georgetown Law Journal as executive editor and served as a legal research and writing fellow.
