California's climate change regulation - SB 375 - is geared toward reducing green house gas emissions (GHGs). The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has set GHG reduction targets to be used metropolitan planning organizations. Each region will have a sustainable community strategy in the next few years which will change the way that development projects are looked at. These changes will encourage closer in and higher density development near transit opportunities other than cars.
