Governor Signs AB 1156, Opening New Pathways for Solar Development on Williamson Act Lands

On September 30, 2026, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1156 into law. As we previously reported, AB 1156 is intended to facilitate the development of qualifying photovoltaic solar projects on agricultural lands that are restricted by Williamson Act contracts and are located in overdrafted groundwater basins. The new law takes effect January 1, 2027.
