John J. Allen

We are deeply saddened to share that our partner, colleague, and friend John J. Allen passed away on October 25, 2025.

John was a titan in the field of environmental law. For nearly 25 years, he practiced with Allen Matkins, following an accomplished tenure as in-house environmental counsel with one of the world’s largest environmental engineering and consulting firms. Throughout his career, John represented and advised commercial and industrial clients, as well as real estate developers, buyers, and sellers, on federal, state, and local environmental regulations involving soil, air, water, and waste.

John was dedicated to his clients and to the highest standards of the legal profession. He was a generous mentor and trusted resource for many within the firm, always willing to share his deep knowledge and practical wisdom. Beyond his professional accomplishments, John will be remembered as a true gentleman whose integrity, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege to work with him. He will be deeply missed by his colleagues and friends throughout the firm.
