Richard Herrera

Senior Counsel

Richard is senior real estate counsel in the Los Angeles office. He represents developers, institutional and non-institutional investors, and real estate funds in the financing, purchase, sale, development, leasing, and management of real estate. His experience extends across all asset classes, including raw land, office, multifamily, industrial, hospitality, retail and shopping center, and data center properties. Richard routinely advises capital partners and sponsors in negotiating and structuring complex real estate joint venture agreements and has substantial experience representing borrowers and lenders on debt financing transactions.

His robust practice encompasses the following areas:

  • Purchase and sale of developed and undeveloped real estate assets for buyers and sellers, including national portfolio transactions.
  • Real estate joint ventures and partnership agreements.
  • Development of industrial, multifamily, mixed-use, retail, and other commercial properties.
  • Lender-side financing, including construction, mezzanine, and structured finance transactions.
  • Preferred equity transactions.
  • Loan workouts, whole loan acquisitions and sales, syndications and participations, foreclosures, and other enforcement actions.
  • Commercial leasing, asset management, and day-to-day real estate operational matters.

Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Richard was of counsel in the real estate department of a prominent AmLaw 100 firm.
