Kamran Javandel

Partner

Kamran is co-chair of the firm’s Land Use, Environmental & Natural Resources Group. He has extensive experience litigating disputes and enforcement actions related to environmental contamination.

His background as an environmental toxicologist and his ability to understand and distill complex scientific concepts into concise, actionable strategies enable Kamran to conserve client resources and add credibility to his communications with courts, regulators, and adversaries. Kamran’s work on the front end of all types of litigation is crafted to reduce the chance of escalation, often prevailing at the earliest stages of a dispute. He is responsive, thorough, and effective and able to grasp the details without losing sight of the big picture to achieve client objectives.

Kamran helps sophisticated clients handle their most challenging environmental matters, minimizing their liability and advancing their business interests. He has successfully eliminated environmental claims against, advised on environmental cleanups for, and obtained environmental approvals and permits for:

  • Fortune 500 manufacturers
  • Developers
  • Global telecommunications companies
  • National banks
  • Large technology companies and startups
  • Commercial property owners
  • Food distributors
  • Consumer product distributors and retailers

He defends clients in administrative enforcement proceedings and litigation in state and federal court under the full scope of environmental laws, including in particular, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Resource, Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), Proposition 65, and toxic tort and other claims related to environmental contamination such as trespass, negligence, and nuisance. He routinely advises clients on environmental cleanups and has deep knowledge of the legal and technical complexities of such projects.

Kamran has also helped clients implement major development and infrastructure projects by obtaining environmental permits, including CWA Section 401 certifications, Army Corps of Engineers permits, Department of Fish and Wildlife lake and streambed alterations agreements and incidental take permits, Bureau of Land Management right-of-way grants, and National Park Service special use permits.
