Stephen P. Lieske

Partner

Steve is a partner in the San Francisco office whose practice focuses on real estate finance and capital markets. Steve is skilled in the full range of real estate financing and related transactions.

Steve represents national real estate lenders in all facets of real estate loans from the loan commitment phase through document negotiation and closing. Steve's clients include banks, life insurance companies, and conduit/securitization lenders. Steve also represents borrowers in real estate financing transactions, including acquisition and refinancing, construction loans, and mezzanine financing.

Steve represents servicers of securitized loans and has extensive experience in all aspects of the servicing practice. His servicing practice includes a wide array of issues with which loan servicers deal, including loan assumptions, loan modifications, and consent matters.

Steve has significant experience representing his lending clients in the enforcement of remedies, including experience with foreclosure, receiverships, and deeds in lieu of foreclosure. This experience is also used when representing purchasers of defaulted loans. Steve guides his clients through the loan acquisition process and the exercise of remedies.

Steve represents servicers of securitized loans and has extensive experience in all aspects of the servicing practice. His servicing practice includes a wide array of issues with which loan servicers deal, including loan assumptions, loan modifications, and consent matters.

  • National CMBS Lender. All facets of the closing of conduit mortgage loans, from structuring and loan application through due diligence and closing.
  • Major Securitized Loan Servicer. Hundreds of servicing matters ranging from routine consent matters to modifications to assumptions. Many of these transactions include complex collateral and real estate issues.
  • Life Insurance Companies. Real estate loans secured by property throughout California.
  • Developer. $145 million term and revolving credit facility relating to portfolio of 30 office properties.
  • Developer. $125 million construction loan relating to construction and renovation of regional shopping mall.
  • Developer. $44 million construction loan relating to construction of mixed-use residential and retail project.
  • Borrower. $142 million loan secured by office building.
  • Participant. Pension fund advisory company in connection with participation in $206 million construction loan.
  • Real Estate Investment Trust. Multiple acquisitions of loans, followed by successful deeds in lieu of foreclosure in which the client obtained title without need for foreclosure.
  • National Bank. Construction lending matters.
  • State Teachers' Retirement System. $98.5 million loan secured by commercial office building.
  • Ski Resort Developer. Financing, and subsequent refinancing, of multiple ski resorts.
