Brenn Coyle

Associate

Brenn is a real estate associate in the Century City office and focuses his practice on joint venture and equity investments as well as complex real estate finance transactions. Within those areas, Brenn’s practice typically involves structuring, negotiating, drafting and closing single-asset, portfolio and programmatic joint ventures, acquisition and disposition transactions, financing transactions (both lender and borrower side, including mortgage, mezzanine, and construction financings), and various other real estate related transactions. His experience includes a wide range of asset types, including industrial, office, multifamily, senior housing and assisted living, data centers, commercial and residential developments, hospitality projects, and shopping centers.

Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Brenn was an associate at prominent AmLaw 100 and 200 firms in Los Angeles, where he focused his practice on real estate and real estate finance. During law school, Brenn received the Witkin Award in Legal Research and Writing and served as a teaching assistant for both criminal law and torts.

Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Brenn was an associate at prominent AmLaw 100 and 200 firms in Los Angeles, where he focused his practice on real estate and real estate finance. During law school, Brenn received the Witkin Award in Legal Research and Writing and served as a teaching assistant for both criminal law and torts.

Joint Venture/Equity Investment

    • Represented an institutional real estate fund in the formation of a joint venture to acquire and develop two Class A logistics buildings in New Jersey.*
    • Represented an institutional real estate fund with several separate portfolio sales of manufactured housing communities located throughout the US with an aggregate purchase price of approximately $700 million.*
    • Represented an institutional real estate fund in the formation of a joint venture to acquire and develop six Class A logistics buildings in Southern California, totaling approximately four million square feet.*
    • Represented an institutional real estate fund in connection with the sale of an approximately $245 million Class A office building located in Los Angeles.*
    • Advised a family office in the acquisition of a Texas-based multifamily asset through a complex recapitalization structure bringing in new equity and securing Fannie Mae financing.

Finance

    • Represented a lender in the acquisition and construction loan for a ground leasehold interest covering a to-be-developed industrial park in Reno, Nevada.*
    • Represented a lender in the portfolio acquisition loan for separate multi-family properties throughout Texas.*
    • Represented a global institutional investment fund in connection with a $180 million mortgage financing secured by a marquee commercial asset in New Jersey.
    • Represented a global institutional investment fund in connection with a $160 million mortgage financing secured by a marquee commercial asset in Southern California.

Hospitality

    • Represented a hotel owner in the acquisition and related seller-financing of an approximately $110 million boutique hotel in Phoenix, Arizona.*
    • Advised a world-renowned luxury hospitality company on multiple complex hotel and resort deals throughout North and South America, including branded residential components and long-term management arrangements.*

Data Center

    • Advised a global institutional investment fund in the formation of a joint venture with a leading data center developer for the acquisition and development of a data center asset in Manassas, Virginia, with total all-in costs over $975 million. Represented the same institutional investor in a follow-on joint venture with the same developer for the acquisition and development of a data center in Phoenix, Arizona, with total all-in costs over $550 million, further expanding the platform’s U.S. footprint under its flagship data center fund.
    • Advised a global institutional investment fund in the formation of a joint venture with a leading data center developer for the acquisition and development of its first data center asset in San Jose, California, marking the inaugural investment in the fund’s global flagship data center platform.*
    • Advised a client on the sale of a large-scale data center asset in San Jose, California, including considerations related to the Small Power Plant Exemption under California Energy Commission rules, for $225 million.
